If there’s one way that’s guaranteed to make you feel festive, it’s visiting a Christmas market. Long gone are the days of having to book time off of work and venture into Europe; there are now some amazing Christmas markets right on our doorsteps. If you’re looking for something a bit more authentic than London’s Winter Wonderland, you’re in the right place.

These 5 Christmas markets are some of the best in the UK and should definitely be on your must-see list for years to come.

Taking place over four days in December, Lincoln is the perfect backdrop for a Christmas market. It showcases hundreds of different stalls, featuring everything from festive homeware to delicious refreshments. With stalls running across the entire Cathedral Quarter from The Lawn to the grounds of Lincoln Castle and out into the square – this is one of the most picturesque markets you’ll ever step foot in.

In addition to traditional market stalls, there’s also a funfair packed with rides and a stunning Ferris Wheel.

York Christmas market has been running for over 30 years – and it’s clear to see they know what they’re doing. Filled with over 100 alpine chalets scattered around the city, you’ll feel like you’re about to hit the slopes! From the Made in Yorkshire Yuletide Village, where you’ll find fantastic local produce to Parliament Street where market traders sell more traditional gifts – there really is something for everyone.

Edinburgh at Christmas is truly magical and a sure-fire way to get you in the festive spirit. There are several markets in the city, but the daddy of them all is the huge East Princes Street Gardens market.

Make sure you bring a good appetite to this market as the aromas will have you salivating, from crepes to hotdogs and gluhwein – you won’t leave with an empty stomach.

Winchester Cathedral Christmas market is recognised as one of the best in Europe. Renowned for its bustling atmosphere, stunning location and handpicked high-quality exhibitors, it attracts visitors from all over the world each year. Situated within historic grounds, with perfect Instagram-worthy wooden chalets inspired by traditional German Christmas markets and the smells of mulled spices and cinnamon in the air, you’ll be transported to a festive wonderland. If you’re searching for that extra-special Christmas gift there are jewellers, painters, glass makers and textile artists selling unique gifts and decorations.

If you’re looking to step back in time and discover the magical moments of Christmas, Bath market should be high up on your Xmas wish list. Not only do they have traditional stalls and goods almost as far as the eye can see, but they also have sustainability at the heart of it. Each year they strive to be more environmentally responsible and make a positive impact on the city – including working with stallholders on reducing unnecessary plastic waste.
