Oracle Red Bull Racing claim another 1-2 finish at Miami F1 GP

May 8, 2023

Oracle Red Bull Racing’s season continues to gather momentum as Max Verstappen claimed his third win of the season, followed closely behind in second place by teammate Sergio Perez at the Miami F1 GP.

Verstappen’s victory was all the more impressive considering the Dutch driver had to muscle his way to the top of the podium from a starting position of ninth place.

Lead

The win increased Verstappen’s lead in the Drivers Championship to 14 points as teammate Checo follows hot on his heels in second place.

“I stayed out of trouble at the beginning, had a clean race, picked off the cars one by one” – Verstappen

Tyre choice and careful management were a key component to Sunday’s success, stated Verstappen afterwards.

“I stayed out of trouble at the beginning, had a clean race, picked off the cars one by one and I could stay out really long on the hard tyres,” he explained.

“I think that’s where we made the difference today and then a good little battle with Checo at the end.”

Pace

Also speaking after Sunday’s race at the Miami International Autodrome, Perez pointed to a lack of pace as something he will have to look closely at.

“It is a well-deserved win for Max who had tremendous pace on the hard tyres,” said Pérez. “I think I have to analyse what went wrong today because I simply didn’t have the pace.”

Sunday’s points haul from both drivers has steered Oracle Red Bull Racing on to 224 points in the Constructors Championship – 122 points clear of their nearest rivals.
