What is the ‘Anchorman’ in Blackjack?

May 2, 2023

‘Anchorman’ is just one of many Blackjack-specific terms

It’s no secret that to participate in a game of Blackjack, players must take their seat around a semi-circular felt table with the dealer standing in front of them. However, some may not realize that there is terminology that exists to define each individual player position.

‘Box’

In Blackjack, the Anchorman is the person seated in the last position or ‘box’ at the table and is also the last player to take action before the dealer.

A common misconception is that the status of Anchorman has a negative bearing on a player’s individual Blackjack game, since they must wait until everyone else has made a decision before deciding whether to ‘hit’ or ‘stand’.

Truth

However, this is a myth that can be easily debunked. The truth is that a player’s position cannot negatively or positively alter the turn of events in Blackjack, nor can it make it put fellow players at any advantage or disadvantage. Therefore, the importance of the Anchorman position should not be exaggerated; it is merely another seat at the table.
