Home / News / Rap star and PokerStars Pro Alejandro Lococo drops the mic with $12M Triton Millions victory

PokerStars Ambassador and battle rap superstar Alejandro “Papo MC” Lococo pulled off an unprecedented victory on Monday, December 9, taking down the enormous Triton Millions event in the Bahamas for $12.07 million – by far the biggest score ever recorded by a current member of Team PokerStars.

On top of that monumental prize, Lococo also clinched his maiden World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet, having come so close back in 2021 when he burst onto the poker scene and placed seventh in the WSOP Main Event.

The amazing thing is that Lococo, an accomplished poker player with $2.8 million in live earnings before the event, was considered a “VIP” in a field of poker’s elite.

That’s because the Triton Millions — the biggest event on the prestigious Triton Super High Roller Series — had a unique format which saw VIPs from the world of business and, in Lococo’s case, music, invite and pair up with a poker pro of their choosing. Both members of the duo then bought into the event for a whopping $500,000 apiece.

The event took place at the Atlantis Resort, the former home of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), and saw Lococo outlast a 96-entry field comprised of many of the game’s biggest names. He was paired up with the illustrious Joao Vieira, but when the Portuguese legend departed, it was all down to Lococo.

Having navigated his way through a final table that included Sosia Jiang, Alex Foxen and Daniel Dvoress, Lococo ultimately defeated British pro Ben Heath heads-up. For his efforts, Heath banked $8.1 million – one of the best consolation prizes you’ll find in poker.

But the title, bracelet, and lion’s share of the $48 million prize pool went to Papo.

WELL-VERSED IN BOTH ARENAS

We all know Lococo as a force at the poker tables, a player who in just a few years has gone from poker anonymity to the WSOP Main Event final table, a Eureka Poker Tour title, and multiple wins in European Poker Tour (EPT) side events.

But there are millions of Lococo fans out there who have no idea about his poker prowess. That’s because the Argentine is a hugely popular battle rapper with millions of social media followers. He’s used to performing on big stages, thinking on his feet, and skillfully and creatively taking down opponents in verbal warfare.

Those skills have proven particularly potent at the poker tables, too. “I have a guy in front of me, talking trash about me, screaming in my face. Thousands of people finding it funny what he’s saying to me,” Lococo told us back in 2022. “So I’m not going to get nervous when someone asks me how many chips I have. It’s funny to me.”

BIGGEST POKERSTARS SCORE

Huge scores are nothing new for members of Team PokerStars.

When he was repping the Red Spade, Daniel Negreanu banked $8.2 million when he finished runner-up in the Big One for One Drop. And just two years ago PokerStars Ambassador Sam Grafton took down a Triton Invitational for $5.5 million.

But Lococo’s result surpasses them all.

What makes it even more incredible is that his attendance in the Bahamas was a last-minute decision. Lococo was due to be in Prague for the European Poker Tour before he was persuaded by a prominent pro to take a shot in the Triton Millions.

Perhaps unsurprisingly in an event with such an enormous buy-in ($500K), Lococo has been open about the fact that he only had a small percentage of himself in the tournament.

Still, any percentage of $12,070,000 is worth writing home about.

Congratulations, Papo!
