Go behind the scenes with Twitch star Fintan Hand at the True Geordie meet-up event in London.
âIâm going to make him an offer he canât refuse.â
Now, we canât be one hundred per cent sure that Brian Davis, the YouTube/podcast/Twitch legend better known as the True Geordie, was doing his best âDon Corleone from The Godfatherâ impression when he invited Fintan âeasywithacesâ Hand to the second True Geordie meet-up game in London last week.
But what we do know for certain is that, if he did say those words, then he was absolutely right.
You see, itâs a busy time in the life of Finty right now. The PokerStars Ambassador recently became a father for the first time and, having taken some well-deserved time away from Twitch for paternity leave, he only recently returned to the streaming grind. Needless to say, he doesnât have a lot of time to get away at the moment.
But when the True Geordie crew make you an offer, itâs hard to turn it down. Luckily for us, Fintan was documenting the whole thing.
Fintan was on his way to Londonâs Hippodrome Casino for the second True Geordie meet-up game after the first edition back in November 2021 proved a huge success. At that one, fans competed in a poker freeroll for invites to the event which featured poker tournaments, banter, and perhaps most importantly, an open bar.
And just like the Hippodrome bartenders probably uttered hundreds of times last week, it was time for the âsame againâ.
Fintan took his seat in the True Geordie tournament where James Hartiganâthe voice of PokerStarsâwas on hand to emcee. But before play got started, there was the little matter of informing the players who among them had bounties on their heads.
Yep. Finty had a target on his back. Graciously, he remained standing so that the other players could see it.
But it would take quite a while before that bounty was hunted.
Out of 90 players, Fintan made it all the way to final table, as did True Geordie himself. That makes it back-to-back True Geordie meet-up FTs for Brian Davis.
But in the end, it wasnât to be.
Hereâs a look at Fintanâs bust-out hand:
When youâre at a True Geordie event, elimination from the tournament does not, and I repeat, does not mean your night is over. Far from it.
The drinks flowed into the early hours and that gave Fintan a chance to catch up with two members of the True Geordie crew, Laurence McKenna and Rory Jennings, who he knows well from appearances on The Showdown.
The rest of the night? Weâll never know.
But we do know that Fintan made it to the airport on time for his flight home to Dublin.
Unfortunately, we canât say the same for the plane.
It turned up in the end, though, and Fintan was on his way back to his family.
If youâre hoping to attend the next True Geordie meet-up, do whatever you can to do so. Thereâs a fantastic atmosphere that you wonât forget. True Geordie describes it as a âpoker game with a boxing atmosphereâ.
Hereâs Fintan sounding off on his trip.
Forever a grinder, Fintan was back at the online tables on Sunday with dreams of winning the Sunday Million. Unfortunately for him, so were thousands of other players and after a spell of bad luck, his Sunday session was cut short.
Still, that gave him time to watch a film heâd always meant to see but never had.
The Godfather.
Coincidence?
