Bundesliga winner odds and preview

With the new campaign creeping ever closer, we take a look at what could happen in Germany this season and assess whether anyone can knock Bayern Munich off their lofty perch in our Bundesliga winner odds.

Bayern Munich

The perennial champions romped to top spot once again last season and are the 2/11 favourites in our Bundesliga winner odds to make it 10 straight victories in the competition.

Hansi Flick, who returned seven major titles to the Allianz Arena during his two-year spell with the Bavarians, has left the club to replace Joachim Low as head coach of the German national side and in his place comes Julian Nagelsmann.

Nagelsmann takes over in the dugout on a five-year-deal, with the former RB Leipzig boss costing Bayern a reported 25million euros in compensation.

Success will be expected from the 33-year-old, who guided Leipzig to second in the league and the final of the DFB-Pokal earlier this year, but his task is made easier by inheriting one of the best squads in European football.

Robert Lewandowski once again came out on top in the Bundesliga goalscoring charts having broken Gerd Muller’s 49-year record of goals in a campaign with the final kick of the season which took his tally to 41.

The sharp-shooting Pole is aided in attack by German trio Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has signed a two-year extension to add further depth to the forward line while youngster Jamal Musiala can be expected to feature more regularly this season.

Borussia Dortmund

A third-place finish in the league ensured Champions League football returned to the Westfalenstadion for the coming season, with Marco Rose taking over as manager from the departing Edin Terzic.

But the highlight of 2020/21 for BVB was victory over RB Leipzig in the German Cup final, with Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland each netting twice in a 4-1 win.

Dortmund will have to quickly adjust to life without Manchester United-bound Sancho, with Norway starlet Haaland’s future also a topic of conversation in this transfer window.

However, this is a squad accustomed to regular change and the 7/1 second favourites in our Bundesliga winner odds are still capable of giving their rivals from Munich plenty to think about.

Captain Marco Reus and the experienced Mats Hummels provide a spine to a side that has allowed 18-year-old England international Jude Bellingham to flourish in the last 12 months and there is plenty of international experience amongst the playing ranks.

RB Leipzig

Second in the league and runners-up in the cup last term, the Red Bull-backed outfit have a new man in the hot-seat as Jesse Marsch takes over from Nagelsmann.

The American achieved the league and cup double in both seasons at the helm of Austrian sister club Red Bull Salzburg and will be attempting to replicate that success.

Scandinavian pair Yussuf Poulsen and Emil Forsberg impressed at the recent European Championship, with the latter notching up three goals from midfield in Sweden’s run to the second round.

Forsberg also headed up the Leipzig’s scoring charts last season and the pair look likely to lead the charge this term, with the club priced up at 10/1 in our Bundesliga winner odds to go one better than the second place they picked up in 2020/21.

They have added Portugal international Andre Silva to the ranks in a bid to bolster their goalscoring prowess, with the 25-year-old hitting the back of the net 28 times in 32 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt last season.

Bayer Leverkusen

The nearly men of German football are 66/1 in our Bundesliga winner odds to better their fifth-place finishing position last term and bring the trophy home to the BayArena for the first time.

Argentina international Lucas Alario continues to fire in the goals and he is assisted in attack by the Czech Republic’s Patrik Schick, fresh off the back of a five-goal salvo in his country’s run to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals.

The sacking of Peter Bosz in the spring left a managerial vacancy that has been filled by Gerardo Seoane, who will be looking to repeat the success he had in Switzerland where the 42-year-old guided Young Boys to three straight Swiss Super League titles.

Borussia Monchengladbach

The Prussians failed to match their fourth-placed finish in 2019/20 when having to settle for eighth last season and are 66/1 in our Bundesliga winner odds to add to the five league honours they secured in the 1970s.

Marco Rose has moved on to Borussia Dortmund, with Adi Hutter making the switch from Eintracht Frankfurt to take the reins in the manager’s office.
