We’re hoping our St Leger Festival tips end with a Classic success at Doncaster and have also picked out selections for the chief supporting races.

This four-day event has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity over recent years and continues to go from strength to strength.

Here’s three horses to look out for at Town Moor:

Park Hill Stakes

Andrew Balding’s charge Horseplay looked a natural for Thursday’s feature event, dubbed the fillies’ St Leger, when staying on well to edge out God Given in the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock.

She faced a tough task when taking on elite-level rivals in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks at York but was far from disgraced in finishing fourth behind leading Arc fancy Sea Of Class.

Doncaster Cup

Aidan O’Brien’s Irish raider Idaho has a score to settle in Friday’s showpiece at Doncaster after stumbling and unseating his rider when odds-on favourite for the 2016 St Leger, having been placed in two Derbies that year.

Twice a Group 2 winner, the five-year-old has faced some daunting challenges since powering to victory in Chester’s Ormonde Stakes in May and should welcome dropping back down in class.

St Leger

O’Brien took his tally of St Leger wins to five when Capri came home in front 12 months ago and the Ballydoyle handler has another strong hand this Saturday.

The stable was under a cloud when Kew Gardens was third behind Old Persian in the Great Voltigeur at York and the son of Galileo can gain revenge now back to full health.

He had previously been an emphatic victor in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and picked up a Group 1 prize in Longchamp’s prestigious Grand Prix de Paris, galloping on strongly both times.
