British Grand Prix Predictions and Preview

Lewis Hamilton finds himself in the rare position of being under pressure heading into his home grand prix but will be determined to get his title quest back on track at Silverstone.

The seven-time world champion has won eight British Grand Prixs, including six of the last seven editions, but finds himself 32 points adrift of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in the championship standings.

Roared on by a capacity 140,000 crowd – the biggest post-pandemic audience in the UK – Hamilton will want to use his home advantage to fight back in the championship.

We have picked out three betting tips from the British Grand Prix odds on a weekend where there will be a new innovation:

Verstappen was dominant in winning the two races at the Red Bull Ring, meaning he has won four of the last five races and Red Bull have triumphed in all five.

The performance advantage, including greater straight-line speed, has been clear for all to see but Mercedes are bringing a package of upgrades to Silverstone which they will hope can help them narrow the gap.

Verstappen, who won the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone last season, will be braced for a sterner test from Mercedes this weekend but is not frightened of a track where Hamilton has dominated.

“I expected to struggle a bit in France, for example, and we still got away with a pole and a win so from now onwards I am just looking forward to every single track,” Verstappen told GPFans.com.

“There are no guarantees but there is not a single track where I think I am going to be too afraid.”

Despite Verstappen’s bullishness, we fancy Hamilton to win the race at British Grand Prix odds of 17/10.

This weekend will see the first trial of F1’s new sprint format, where a qualifying session on Friday will determine the grid for a 100km sprint race on Saturday that will set the grid for Sunday’s race – with points also available for the top three finishers.

Pierre Gasly, F1, British Grand Prix odds

Ferrari racing director Lauren Mekies explained in a team video: “That sprint race is going to be like a 100-kilometre flat-out from our drivers.

“Two starts in the weekend now. One mini-race, one main-race. We keep the qualifying so it is all about adding excitement for the fans and we are very much looking forward to seeing how it is going to develop, how we are going to cope with the constraints as a team, how our drivers are going to adapt with these challenges but we think it will be very exciting.”

Lando Norris will relish more wheel-to-wheel racing as he seeks to continue a fine season.

Norris has secured three podiums in nine races and started in the top three at the last two races.

We fancy him to make the podium again this weekend on home soil at 5/2, in a McLaren car that continues to mix it with the top two teams.

Another driver consistently delivering is Pierre Gasly at Alpha Tauri.

The Frenchman has qualified in the top six at the last four races and landed a podium in Azerbaijan.

Gasly endured bad luck in Austria but we believe he is capable of springing a surprise at Silverstone, with an attractive 12/1 price for a podium in the British Grand Prix odds.
