A Day in the life of a Live Casino Dealer
Ever since the very first live casinos, what has helped make online casino games authentic and genuine are live dealers.
Live dealers help replicate a live casino and make them feel like the real deal. They are highly trained, well versed across multiple games and usually are the reason behind the fun atmosphere that live casino games are able to generate.
Without them, live casinos just wouldn’t be able to function, but there are plenty of different things that a live casino dealer encounters on a day to day basis.
Before a shift begins
Before a live dealer begins their shift, they first of all need to make sure they look the part. A live casino dealer embodies everything that a live casino stands for and represents and they will have uniforms that they need to wear.
Usually a live dealer uniform is formal. Male dealers often need to wear a shirt and tie, female dealers usually have shirts or blouses. Most live casinos try to position themselves as upmarket – it’s rare to see dealers in just jeans and trainers.
Depending on how the casino organises itself, a dealer might have to take multiple uniforms with them. There are some live casino games that have games that are more relaxed and a dealer may be required to switch their shirt for a t-shirt to fit the laid back atmosphere. Other games have specific themes that may require fun outfits to be worn. A dealer will have to prepare and know what they need to wear ahead of their shift beginning.
Making their way to work
Although live casino games look like they are located right in the heart of a real casino floor, it’s actually more likely that the dealer will need to head to a studio to perform their duties.
Studio areas have been purposely designed to house live casino games. Studios firstly provide more space, and they allow for all of the necessary technology and sound equipment that games need to be able to stream.
The studios allow the dealers the space to perform their work effectively and ensures that everything can happen under one roof.
During a shift
It is usual that dealers will perform multiple duties when they reach the studio for work. Usually dealers work in shifts that last around 30/40 minutes and that can span across multiple games, including roulette, blackjack, three card poker, baccarat and game show games.
The reason why a dealer will work for a limited time before moving onto a different table is so that they are kept fresh and games continue to be fun and engaging.
When training to be a dealer it is rare that a dealer will only train in one game. They will need to have knowledge of the different rules of different games so that they can work on these games effortlessly. There will be many different nuances and skills that dealers will need to be aware of.
For game show games they will need to be upbeat, positive and fun. For roulette which is quick and fast paced, dealers need to be clear with their actions and ensure that the pace of play remains quick and on schedule.
Those dealing blackjack usually have the opportunity to be sociable and need to be able to converse with different people all over the world.
A dealer needs to have many different skins, but whatever game they play, it is usually them that helps make everything tick.
Leaving
Shifts can last anywhere between 8-12 hours. However, shifts can vary throughout the week. Live casinos are 24/7 and there could be instances where dealers need to work through the night.
With live dealer work being physical and taxing on the mind, dealers need to ensure that they are fresh and rested ahead of their next shift beginning. Usually after a shift, dealers head home to prepare for the next day.
A rota might be provided so that they know what they need to prepare for. Dealers make what they do look so incredibly easy, but the reality is actually anything but.
