Live Sic Bo vs Live Craps – a comparison of two dice games

June 30, 2025

It’s no secret that when it comes to a live casino playing experience, roulette and blackjack are two online casino classics that get plenty of love and attention. Also trying to muscle their way in on the action are a new breed of casino games – game show games. However, despite these three games leading the way, there are many players who love playing Live Sic Bo and Live Craps.

Two hugely social games to play, the star of each game is dice. So how do the games compare? Let’s explore.

Live Sic Bo – how does it work?

Whilst Craps is a game that most reading this are aware of, when it comes to Sic Bo, it’s fair to say that it might be a part of a live casino you may not have visited before.

The game is easy to play. It involves three dice and depending on the outcome of the roll of those dice, certain bets can be won.

  • Big – One of the most popular bets is a Big bet. This is when the outcome of the three dice totals between 11-17. If it wins it pays at even odds.
  • Small – At the other end of the scale is a Small bet. This when the outcome of the three dice totals between 4-10. This is another bet that pays at even odds.
  • Odds and Even – Another simple bet that can be placed is betting on whether the outcome of the three dice will end in an odd number or even number.
  • Single bets – This is where you bet on a number appearing on at least one of the three dice, if it appears on more than one dice, the payouts can increase.
  • Double bets – This is where you bet on a number appearing on at least two of the three dice, if it appears on more than one dice, the payouts can increase.
  • Triple bets – This bet does what it says on the tin and comes in if one number appears on all three of the dice.

Live Craps – how does it work?

Craps has always been a casino favourite. Often the game of choice when it comes to casino games being depicted in TV shows or the movies, it could be argued that it is one of the more popular games in an online casino and is as popular as Craps.

Whereas Sic Bo uses three dice, Craps uses two. The different types of bets that can be placed are as follows.

  • Pass Line Bet – Ideally the numbers that players want to see in a Pass Line Bet is a 7 or 11. If a 2,3 or 12 is thrown the bet will be lost, however if a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 is thrown this acts as the point. The aim is for this number to be shown again before a 7 is hit.
  • Don’t Pass Bet – If a 2 or 3 is rolled, this bet will be a winning one, however a 7 or 11 will be a losing one and a 12 will result in a push. If none of these numbers appear – the rolled number will act as the point and if this number appears before a 7 the hand will end.
  • Field Bet – This is a bet that focuses on the outcome of one dice. The idea is to match the dice with any of the numbers in the Field section of the table’s layout. If a 2 appears the bet is paid double, 12 will pay triple. If the dice reveal 5, 6, 7, or 8, the bet will be lost.
  • Prop Bet – Here is where you bet on a number and if that number shows up – the bet will be a winner.
  • Hardways and Hop Bet – A Hardways bet focuses on a pair being rolled, whilst a Hop Bet looks at what combinations can occur.

How do the games compare?

Although both games use dice to play – there are actually quite a few differences between the two games and the comparisons are actually quite slim.

Bet differences

Of the two the more straightforward bets tend to lie with Sic Bo. The different bets that can be placed are fairly simplistic with the big, small, odd and even wagers that can be staked. Returning at even odds, the edge that the house experiences is actually reasonably small and is one of the main reasons why so many enjoy playing Sic Bo.

Craps is actually a little more complex to understand and there are a few bets that do take some time to get your head round. Craps is a great watching game and it could be that when you get started you take some time to understand what some of the different bets are before you get involved.

One of the main comparisons between the games is that there is often a reliance on a number being needed from multiple dice. The fact that Craps has two dice and Sic Bo has three does bring in an element of jeopardy and does make winning bets slightly tougher, but in all honesty the element of the multiple dice are what makes the games so fun to play.

It is that layer of fun that is our next comparison.

Both games are so fun to play

The reason why so many enjoy craps is that the dice is in the hands of the players. Otherwise known as the shooter, it is a game where the dealers actually have very little involvement with the exception of laying and placing bets. It is a game where everyone clubs together.

As the players themselves roll the dice there can be no blame apportioned to the dealers and we think that is why so many find it enjoyable as the players have complete accountability.

Sic Bo uses a dice shaker to reveal the results and this can bring in a nice layer of fun.

Although on the surface both of these games are simplistic, you would be hard pushed to find two games that provide so much fun and enjoyment as Craps and Sic Bo.
