Step 1: Place the Bet

The first step in baccarat is placing your bet. The betting combinations available in baccarat are betting on your hand, the banker’s hand, or on a tie. Betting on your hand has a 1:1 probability of winning; the banker’s hand has 0.95:1 as 5% of the bets are taken as a commission by the banker and a tie returns an 8:1 probability. 

Step 2: Play Your Cards

Once you place the bet, the banker will issue two cards to themselves and you. Your main goal in the game should be to have two cards whose combined value will be closest to 9. If your hand wins, then all the player bets will be paid back to you, and vice versa if the banker’s hand wins. In case of a tie, any bets will be paid to the player or the banker who had placed the bet on the game to end in a tie. 

Step 3: Understand the Third Card Rule

If the player or the banker’s card totals up to 5 or less, then a third card will be drawn and added to the final value. In case the third card and the other two cards total above 10, then 10 is deducted from the final value. The third card rule applies to both the banker and the player. After the round, the total closest to 9 wins the round. However, note that bets placed on a banker pair or a player pair are not successful if the player or banker needs a third card to win. 

Step 4: Understand How the Banker/Player Pair Bets Work

To make more money, you can spice up your bets by adding banker pair or player pair bets alongside your initial bet. A pair bet wins when the two initial cards issued to either the banker or the player win the game without requiring a third card. Pair bets can win when the total value of either the player or the banker is between 6 and 9 in value, as they will not necessitate a third card.
