Experience the Thrill: An Introduction to Teen Patti for Beginners
Teen Patti, also known as Indian Poker, is one of the most popular card games and has captured the attention of millions of players globally. Simple and thrilling, Teen Patti can be a fantastic game—for newbies as well as well-experienced gamblers. So here’s a beginner’s guide to the basics of Teen Patti, which will give an insight into the game, the rules that must be followed, and some tips to get started.
Basics
Teen Patti is played with a standard 52-card deck—excluding the jokers. It’s usually played with 3 to 6 players and requires the best three-card hand, although bluffing other opponents into thinking you have can also be an option. The game starts with each player receiving three cards, and the ranking of hands is similar to that in poker.
Hand Rankings in Teen Patti
Trail (Set) or Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same rank.
Pure Sequence (Straight Flush): A sequence in a row of three cards of the same suit.
Sequence (Straight): Run of three cards, not all in the same suit.
Colour (Flush): Three cards of the same suit but not in sequence.
Pair (Two of a kind): Two cards of the same rank.
High Card: If no one has any above, then the player with the highest card wins.
How to Play Teen Patti
The game starts with the dealer dealing three cards face down to every player. Before dealing the cards, there is a call for a minimum bet—also called the boot amount—from each player. The players are allowed to either play seen, where they can see their cards, or play blind, where they cannot see their cards. Blind players make bets without seeing their cards, and seen players can raise the bet in case of a good combination in hand.
Betting Rounds: The game continues with players taking turns to bet, raise, or fold. Betting continues until there is a showdown, where the remaining players reveal their cards to determine the winner.
Bluffing: Bluffing is very important in the game of Teen Patti. The players often place high stakes with the intention of making other players believe they have a good hand, though in reality, they do not. Being able to bluff can give the players an advantage in the game.
Side Show: One unique feature available in Teen Patti is the “side show” or “compromise,” where a player can call on the previous player to show their hand. If the previous player agrees to this challenge, then the one with the lowest-ranking hand has to forfeit and fold. This is an additional layer of strategy to the game—hence more thrilling.
