Ben White put Newcastle 1-0 up in the 55th minute with an own goal. Bruno Guimarães extended Newcastle's lead in the 85th minute which looked to make the closing stages more comfortable, and there was nothing between the teams for the remainder.
Matt Targett posed a threat out wide all game, registering 17 crosses, although Callum Wilson was caught offside four times, preventing him from adding further gloss to the scoreline. For Arsenal, Emile Smith Rowe only registered 19 touches in a frustrating game for the midfielder. While the passing game was fairly consistent, the Gunners had a slight advantage, clocking up 333 completed passes to the Magpies' 331.
Newcastle get a much-needed win and rise up the table. Meanwhile, Arsenal hope this isn't the start of a losing streak as they squander an opportunity to move up to 4th in the table.
