The vote goes to NEWTON TORNADO, who looked good when winning his first completed start over fences in a Bangor handicap at the end of November. He lost his action at around the halfway point at Newbury next time but the fact he's back in action just 26 days later would suggest that all is well. Noble Park failed to deliver in his hat-trick bid at Kempton but he's also well worth another chance and rates the main danger ahead of Ki Woo.

Failed to win over hurdles but looked good when winning first 2 chase starts, latterly seeing off 5 rivals in fine style at Lingfield (2½m, good). Disappointing when bidding for the hat-trick at Kempton on Boxing Day but early mistake didn't help that day and he may well get back on track.

    Verdict
Ended last season with a Ffos Las maiden hurdle success and first completed start over fences was a winning one at Bangor (3m, heavy) in November. Probably best to draw a line through subsequent Newbury run (pulled up after losing his action at the eighth fence) and he remains open to improvement.

Successful just once form 15 hurdles starts but has quickly made up into a better chaser, making it 2-4 in this sphere when scoring at Haydock (25.6f, good) towards the end of last month. More needed up 5 lb in this stronger race but couldn't rule out all the same.

    Verdict
Three-time hurdles winner (at up to 3m) last term and decent start over fences when third at Hexham. Failed to build on that next 2 starts but back on track when coming from a seemingly impossible position to strike at Wetherby (24.2f, soft) last month. 3 lb rise fair and he's not discounted.

    Verdict
Fairly useful bumper winner who finished in the money on each of his 5 starts over hurdles. Decent start to chase career when third in 6-runner Southwell handicap (20.4f, good to soft) last month and was still bang there when falling 4 out at Wetherby next time. Each-way chance.

    Verdict
Won Bangor maiden/novice hurdles over 19.5f and 23f last spring. Well held in the handicap won by Newton Tornado on return/chase debut there but subsequent C&D second (good) was much better and he's one to consider up 1 lb with cheekpiece refitted.

    Verdict
Dual hurdles winner in Ireland a few seasons back but he's 0-7 over fences and failed to land a blow tried in blinkers on debut for new yard at Newbury last month. Blinkers retained and first-time tongue strap also enlisted.
