Goodwood

TomorrowAugust 1, 2025FlatClass 26f

SHAMAN CHAMPION made an impressive debut at Leicester earlier in the season and has shaped much better than the result on two subsequent starts in deeper races. He looks the type to improve now tackling nurseries and is preferred to hat-trick seeking Rising Power who looks sure to be suited by the step up in trip on his handicap debut, while the form of Golden Brown's narrow second at Newcastle has been boosted and he makes plenty of appeal back over 6f on his nursery bow.

€600,000 yearling by Wootton Bassett. Impressed when successful on debut in a Newmarket novice prior to following up at Sandown (5f) last month, pulling clear with a horse who subsequently placed in listed company. Will be suited by step up to 6f on handicap debut and could well land the hat-trick.

Showed a sharp turn of foot to make a successful debut at Leicester (5f) in May. Shaped better than the result in the Windsor Castle prior finishing fifth behind Penhallam in a 6f Newbury novice last month, doing well to finish as close as he did. Remains of interest on first start in a nursery.

Shaped well on debut at Ascot prior to landing 5f conditions races at Beverley, going sweetly on the bridle and quickening up well. Subsequently purchased by Wathnan but failed to improve when eighth in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. Early days and may do better over 6f on handicap bow.

Built on fairly useful form shown previously when making all in a 9-runner novice at Pontefract (6f, good to firm) 32 days ago, justifying odds-on favouritism. Has made a promising start but will need to step forward if he's to follow up in a more competitive event on handicap debut.

Successful in a 4-runner 5f Thirsk maiden on debut and improved for the step up to 6f when third in a useful York novice in May. Looked the part but finished well held back down in trip when down the field in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. May get back on track returned to 6f on handicap debut.

Has shown gradual progression in maiden/novice company and was suited by the drop to sprinting when landing a 12-runner novice at Newbury (6f) 22 days ago, for all he was well positioned the way the race unfolded. Remains to be seen if he can confirm that form with Shaman Champion now handicapping.

Runner-up in the Brocklesby on debut and belatedly built on that promise when second on nursery bow at York (6f) last month. Wore first time cheekpieces (retained) when well held in the Super Sprint just 7 days later and is better judged on his previous form. Should be more competitive here.

Built on the promise of his Chepstow debut second (form working out well) when going one better with a strong front-running display in a small-field Goodwood maiden in June. Faced a much stiffer task in a 5f listed race at Sandown last time and will need to improve back over 6f on nursery debut.
