HANDY FRIEND (3) resumed with a narrow defeat at Kyneton, and then things didn't work out stepping up to this distance at Seymour. He's been briefly freshened again and will likely appreciate the blinkers coming off. Presents fitter in easier grade for a smart stable and will be hard to beat. SURFY PETE (5) is third-up seeking the hat-trick and the latest was a good effort at Dunkeld after a slow off. He raced a firm favourite in both and is a decent chance to go back-to-back. SHOWMARA (1) is a winning chance at best and he wasn't far away last time in better class at Mornington. Jumps from an inside gate with a handy 2kg claim and is an each-way play. MY UNCLE DID IT (12) won her Maiden at Hamilton first-up and then was expected to win over a mile at Ararat, beaten less than 2L. The jockey said she may not have been suited by the tight turning track and that won't be an issue here. Worth another chance.
